In recent years, with the development of our national economy, the proportion of the infrastructure construction is increasing, underground engineering is an important part of the infrastructure construction foundation in our country. Rock tunnel boring machine is the most effective special engineering machinery and is used in tunnel engineering. Its merits contains fleetness, high efficiency, safety and high quality. It is the large equipment and its technology consists of machinery, electronic, hydraulic, laser, and control, information and so on. It is widely used in tunnel engineering. Cutter system is an important part of the rock tunnel boring machine. Its accuracy of manufacture and quality has a great influence on tunnel quality态speed and life of rock tunnel boring machine.In the paper, a amount of material about the rock breaking mechanism and mechanical analysis of rock tunnel boring machines cutterhead has been read and summarized, based on the analysis of the previous studies, the paper introduces the history of Shield tunnel technology, research status and working principle of the cutter tool system and so on; Defeat of the cutter tool system and the preventive maintenance measures is analyzed.In the paper, by establishing the geometric and mathematical models using finite element method, relevant stresses, strains and vibration properties are analyzed. With the increase of loading, stress and strain values increase. Moreover, the stress and strain concentrations occur at the central position of cutterhead. From the modal analysis, it is found that the inherent frequency is much higher than the cutterhead rotary speed to avoid the resonance.Based on the analyzing and summarizing the previous studies, the single disc cutter and two adjacent disc cutters breaking different kinds of rocks have been simulated,the stress status and the transformation of the rock crushing zone have been analyzed. Researching on single disc cutter breaking rock is found that under the same load, hardness of the rock is harder, the rock crushing zone is smaller; The crushing zone occurs is under the disc cutter. When the same kinds of rocks is broken, with the increase of loading, the crushing zone increases. Researching on two adjacent disc cutters breaking different kinds of rocks is found that when the efficiency of two adjacent disc cutters breaking the different kinds of rocks is the highest, the cutter space of two adjacent disc cutters is different. When the rock is hard, the relatively small cutter space is conducive to the rock breaking.
