| The pace of industrialization process has led to the progress and development of allaspects of society, but at the same time, it induced the over-exploitation and waste ofresources and the environment. Environmental issues have become the biggest constraints andthreats to our country. Whether individuals change their attitudes and behavior and try toestablish a harmonious relationship with nature determines the future development of ourcountry. This thesis explored the level of Haikou citizens’ pro-environment behavior intention, analyzed the main influencing factors and the relationship between them. In this study, twotypes of influencing factors that may affect the pro-environment behavior intentionare defined:(1)the basic variables, including the general environmental knowledge, environmentalsensitivity and environmental attitudes;(2)the strengthening variables, including theknowledge of environmental action, the consequences of consciousness and the reactionefficacy. And, a pro-environment behavior intention model is advanced and tested and somehypothesis are put forward and examined based on a questionnaire survey conducted inHaikou.Total415valid questionnaires are acquired. Correlation analysis, ANOVA andhierarchical regression statistical analysis are used in this study to test the hypothesis. The results showed that:(1)Haikou citizens have a medium-level of pro-environmentbehavior intention, and the level of their environmental knowledge is fairly low. Specifically, citizens lack of environmental knowledge for action.(2) Environmental sensitivity, environmental attitude, environmental knowledge for action and self-efficacy are predictors ofcitizens’ pro-environmental behavior intention. Among them, environmental sensitivity is themost powerful predictor.(3)There is no correlation between citizens’ general environmentalknowledge and their knowledge of environmental action, environmental sensitivity, environmental attitude, reaction efficacy and the consequences of consciousness. However, there is significantly positive bivariate correlation among knowledge of environmental action, environmental sensitivity, environmental attitudes, efficacy and consequences ofconsciousness reaction.(4)The interaction of environmental knowledge for action and environmental sensitivity have a positively effect on the pro-environmental intention. Itmeans that residents who have a certain environmental sensitivity and know how to actpro-environmentally, they are very likely to act pro-environmentally.In the end, some suggestions about pro-environmental education and environmentalpolicies are put forward. |
