The intention is to explore and confirm the optimized processes and conditionsof the reaction temperature,reaction time, the amount of modifier, and pH byinvestigating the linen yarn modified by cationic modifier, which is synthesized byepichlorohydrin and ethylenediamine. After that, the modified linen yarn was graftedwith gelatin protein and the optimum processing conditions were studied. Thestructure and mechanical properties of the linen yarn before and after graft werecharacterized and analyzed by FT-IR, X-ray diffraction and SEM. The influencingfactors of reactive dye process to modified linen yarn were discussed such as color-fixing temperature, the amount of alkaline, the color-fixing time and theconcentration of dye, etc.The FT-IR spectrum shows that:1050cm-1are caused by primary alcohol bondstretching and bending motionsrespectively. It demonstrates that the terminalhydroxyl group are successfully introduced to the modified linen yarn; the broad peakat755cm-1attributed to amide bond shows that the cationic group(quaternaryammonium salt) is successfully introduced. After The linen yarn grafted by gelatinprotein, a strong peak at1530cm-1attributed to C-N stretching motions appears, itdemonstrates that there is covalent bond between modified linen yarn and gelatinprotein, it proves that the gelatin protein is successfully grafted to the structure oflinen yarn.The studies of the dyeing process of linen yarn modified by gelatin protein showthat: the yield, absorbance content and color-fixing content are significantlyimprovedwhen the linen yarn grafted by gelatin protein reacts with reactive blue dye K-GR dueto the enhanced reactivity and sensitivity between the modified yarn and the dyemolecule.
