Nonwoven wallpapers which have the advantages of good air permeability, high strength, good dimensional stability and low expansion rates are praised by consumers. Nowadays, theapproaches of preparing nonwoven wallpapers base mainly include spunbonded process andneedle-punched process, while the researches of spunlaced nonwoven wallpapers are still in itsinfancy. Therefore, it is of great significance to study and explore the feasibility of the spunlacednonwovens applied in wallpapers for further expanding the application field of spunlacednonwovens. In this research, the preparation of spunlaced nonwoven base, coating finishing andpigment printing were investigated systematically, and expecially, the determination of coatingformulation and optimization in coating process were focused on. It will provide foundation forfurther functional spunlaced nonwoven wallpapers.Firstly, it was spunlaced nonwoven base. In this paper,100%polyester fiber was chose, then the spunlaced nonwoven was made by proper parameters of the key process in carded web, laying process, drafting and spunlace reinforcement, which had moderate gram weight, uniformdensity, flat cloth surface, and aspect ratio of strength close to1. Then spunlaced nonwoven basewas pretreated before coating, discussing the effect of heat setting and calender finishing on theproperties of spunlaced nonwoven base.Secondly, coating process was discussed. Bases with pretreatment were coated by the bladecoating method. In the beginning, this paper discussed the influence of filler dispersionconditions (dispersant dosage, solid content) on the viscosity of suspension, as well as the effectof variations in kinds and concentrations of coating agent and thickening agent dosage on theproperties of coated fabric in smoothness, scalability, water absorption and wet tensile load, hence the coating formulation was determined by the experiment results, which was18wt%polyacrylate coating agent,1.7wt%thickening agent, a moderate amount of other additives, pH9-10and60%coating solid content. Afterwards, by conducting a series of experiments andtesting on the properties of coating fabric and then optimized the process parameters, such ascoating blade method, curing temperature, curing time, fabric tension and coating thickness. When base fabric was coated twice on the right side with3dN/20cm tension and its curingcondition was160℃for60seconds the water absorption of the coated fabrics was up to firstgrade, and the smoothness, scalability and wet tensile load achieved the standard of superiorproducts. Finally, pigment printing for coated fabric was explored. A more rational process conditionof pigment printing was obtained through varying its parameters such as the binder dosage, curing temperature and time. It was found that the friction color fastness, whose color fastness ofdry rubbing and wet rubbing being more than3GB and4GB, respectively, could reach firstgrade and fade resistance (4-5GB) reached the standard of high-class products by using the bestpigment printing process parameters. This result also verified that the coating formula and theoptimum coating technological parameters were suitable for printing. Additionally, it was provedthat the spunlaced nonwoven could be successfully used for wallpapers.
