Gear is the most widely used base class part in machinery industry, So gear hasbeen the focus of the study in manufacturing machinery industry. Gear hobbingprocessing method is the most widely used as a processing method. However, due tothe overall hob with short life, low strength and low defects, When deformation orchipping wear happened, Not only sharpening costs are high, and will the workinghours be extended, which result in an increase in production costs. The topic designand modeling indexable cutter by UG, which is based on gear space meshing theory,and draws on traditional whole hob and indexable milling cutter design methods.Besides the topic also makes NC machining simulation for hob by CNC machinemodule of UG, and takes strength test for indexable cutter by finite element analysis.Finally it complets the whole process of indexable hob from design, manufacture totest. There is significance for the domestic development of indexable cutter.This paper designs indexable carbide hob in case of processing of big modulusgear. It makes three-dimensional modeling for indexable hob cutter body and bladesby UG Modeling module, based on space to gear meshing principle, and finally itestablishes3D model of indexable carbide hob. For complex spatial structurecharacteristics of indexable hob cutter body, which are difficult to process, the papermakes CNC machining simulation of flute and blade grooves of indexable hob cutterbody by CNC machine module of UG, and gives the processing of the cutter bodyand blade size and design dimensions. To ensure the designed indexable hob meetingthe strength requirements,it makes mechanical analysis of indexable cutter blade andcutter body by the finite element analysis.This paper makes design, manufacture and testing on indexable cutter bycomputer powerful CAD/CAE functions, and complets indexable cutter designprocess basically, which reaches good results of shorten designing cycles, reducingdesign costs and responding to market need quickly. It has theoretical and practicalsignificance for design and development of indexable hob on future.
