The high-speed helical gear shaft of reducer parted, which happened in210tons basicoxygen furnace tilting mechanism. It seriously affected the production of steelmaking, andbrought seriously safe trouble. Through careful fastidious fracture section and ANSYS staticstrength analysis of helical gear shaft, confirmed it was fatigue fracture. Then, this paper putforward analysis method to calculate the fatigue life of helical gear shaft which based onANSYS/FE-SAFE, to predict the fatigue life of helical gear shaft, maintenance andreplacement the helical gear shaft equipment in advance, guaranteeing safety production. Atthe same time, the effective structure was put forward to improve it, this can improve theproduction efficiency.First, conduct the3D model of helical gear shaft by3D solidworks software, thenthrough the date connector of solidworks and ANSYS, make the helical gear shaft modelinto ANSYS software to conduct static strength analysis, last, got to the stress distributioncloud maps, and make sure greatest danger position coincided with the actual fracture site,and confirmed the fracture reason was fatigue fracture. The analysis result provides theorybasis to the fatigue analysis.Next, because the load time history is difficult to measure under the actual situation, thepaper used solidworks software to simulate converter’ work situation in one work cycle. Andmake use of the function of “quality characteristic” to calculate converter’ tilting moment inone work cycle, then draw the tilting torque curve. Last used for the formula which wasrelated to them, combine with converter social work situation to draw the load time historycurve of helical gear shaft in one work situation.Last, based on the result of static strength analysis which is conducted by ANSYS, andthe load time history which is calculated by solidworks, and the fatigue performance curveprovided by FE-SAFE, Based on all of above, the fatigue life can be calculated by FE-SAFE,and though the postprocessor of ANSYS to display the fatigue life cloud maps and safetycoefficient cloud maps of helical gear shaft. Then the fatigue life and safety coefficient isensured. Compared with the theoretical fatigue life of helical gear shaft and the social work cycle,and check the correctness of calculation method. Analysis the fatigue result, and raise thestructure’ improvement plan. Conduct the fatigue life of the new helical gear shaft. Checkthe feasibility of the new improvement project.The paper introduced the research object in detail, elucidate the significance of research,and the development of fatigue research situation at home and abroad. Based on the reviewof the theory of fatigue strength, the paper put forward the calculation method and solutionprocess of helical gear shaft’ fatigue life, and the last project to improve it. It can give animportant reference for design and manufacture of helical gear shaft structure and it ishelpful the converter steelmaking production.
