The diamond slicing knife is widely used in cell pathological, nanometer material, pharmaceutical research field. As an important tool of ultra precision cutting, diamondslicing knives reflect the ultra-precision technology strength and defense capabilities ofthe country. However due to grinding process of the diamond slicing knife is affected bygrinding machine, abrasive grain, grinding plate and so on, the grinding mechanism iscomplex, coupled with the research time of the diamond slicing knifes in China is notlong enough. Therefore our grinding technology has been lagged far behind by westerncountries. The cutting edge of diamond slicing knife developed by Harbin institute oftechnology exists micro defects, which makes it cannot meet ultra-precision cuttingrequirements. It is urgent to study several factors which affect the micro defects ofcutting edges to break through the technology bottlenecks of the diamond slicing knife.Firstly, conducting the grinding orthogonal experiment, getting AFM image andvariance analysis. The key factors that affect the length of micro defects along cuttingedge per unit length, cutting edge sharpness and the surface roughness was obtained, and then to analys the influence on the precision of cutting edge shape of the keyfactors’ different level, which will provide major data for mathematical mode;Secondly, in order to get enough data to establish the mathematical mode of cuttingedges, grinding disc stiffness tests, machine tool dynamic balancing precisionexperiments, and the experiments of different size and proportion of the abrasive grains’influence on the precision of grinding disc morphology were conducted. Then themathematical relationship between the length of micro defects and the precision ofmachine tool spindle system, rotate speed, velocity, grains’ size and proportion was got;Thirdly, the mechanics analysis of cutting edges could be got by elastic mechanicsand finite element simulation software ABAQUS. The stress distribution on the cuttingedges under different conditions could be analysed. Elastic mechanical analyticalsolution’s boundary conditions was studied, and the finite element method could be usedto verify it. The change rule of some stress with distance velocity, abrasive particle sizewas studied, which would provid mechanics grounds for grinding process optimization; Finally, to prove the validity of the model and the analysis, diamond slicing knifegrinding experiment was conducted under different grinding condition, by which themicroscopic defect length per unit length could be obtained. then the comparation withthe values which mathematical model gives could be made. Thus the optimization ofgrinding parameters could be got.
