Cemented carbides have a serial of preeminent properties, for example, highhardness, high strength, corrosion resisting and so on. At present, grinding is verypopular technology for machining cemented carbides. For increasing grindingefficiency and reducing the processing cost, using diamond wheel for processingcemented carbides is a kind of advanced processing technology. In the process ofhigh speed grinding, most of the grinding energy will flow into the workpiece,which will make temperature of the grinding zone raise up. Concentrated heatinput leads to temperature rise on the surface of workpiece may lead to thermaldamage to workpiece and grinding wheel. Therefore, it is very important andrealistic to research the cemented carbides material grinding temperature forexploring the thermal principle of forming grinding defects and finding a way ofcontrolling the grinding surface quality.The paper expounded the development of grinding process of cementedcarbides and high speed grinding, the study of finite element simulation forgrinding temperature and the research meaning of grinding temperature ofcemented carbides. In this paper, by means of the finite element method (FEM)the equations of the stable and the transient temperature distribution are deducedand according to these the grinding temperature distribution model is got, whichprovides the theory foundation for the further research of the grindingtemperature. Secondly, computational model for thermal analysis is established.The paper simplifies the heat source of contact area in grinding as triangle heatsource. As for the models, they are divided into hexahedron and solid thermalelements by making use of the finite element analysis software-ANSYS12.0.Thereby, the computational models of three dimensions that can describe the truestatus are built for dynamic simulation. Focus on the FEM, the trend of highspeed grinding temperature field of the two cemented carbides material YG8andPA30are analyzed in detailed with the grinding parameters such as wheel speed,cut depth and table speed. Lastly, the paper introduced the methods of measuringgrinding force and grinding temperature on a high speed grinder. The grindingtemperature of cemented carbides was measured using thermocouple techniques. The research indicated that, with the finite element analysis software ANSYS,the simulation analysis for high speed grinding temperature field only has fewerror compared with the experimental results, and has more accurate reflects ofgrinding temperature field of cemented carbides. The production of this paperopens out the internal rule of temperature field of high speed grinding forcemented carbides; it is helpful to set up perfect basic system info of high speedgrinding, and it also has certain guiding sense for the engineering.
