Recent years have witnessed the boosting of real estate and automobile industry, which leads to an ever growing demand of float glass both from China and abroad. As one of the "Three Float Glass Technologies" in the world, Luoyang Float Glass enjoys a good reputation, yet a large number of the production lines in China are still designed with control strategies in the1980s, which not only effects the accuracy of the process, but also causes negative impacts both on the quantity and the quality of the product. The development of automation technology brings about the revolution of production line in China, the design of advanced production line of float glass becomes of great significance at present.This paper intends to design an automatic production line of float glass based on SIMATIC PCS7system, after clear understanding of the requirement specifications of the production line of float glass, a comprehensive control system is designed. This paper introduces the configuration of hardware and system structure, the design of hardware and software, control strategies applied in the project. In addition, this paper introduces a modified method to the tunnel temperature control of the furnace with Internal Model Control Strategy, of which the simulation result on SIMULINK indicates very good effect, and this can be a good example in the engineering plan in the future.
