| Based on investigations about children’s perferences in purchasingstationery in several preliminary schools as well as in Beijing stationery market, this paper explores the adverse influence brought by the added toy-elementsof children stationery, and offers some counter-measures to avoid this trend. The paper is mainly divided by three parts: firstly, since most Chinese familiesonly have one child, therefore the children’s educations are highlyemphasized, and most families are willing to spend more on their children. As aresult, the families are usually passive and irrational when they chose childrenstationary. Secondly, it reviews the developing history of stationery inancienttimes, modern times, and contemporary times, compares the designs ofchildren stationaries and choices of them by children and their parents, andanalyzes the reasons why there are so many inferior designs in children’sstationery, such as the excessive added toy-elements,adult-elements,andviolence-elements,as well as the adverse influence on children’s mentaldevelopment and studies. Finally,it offers the overview of the future childrenstationery design: while improving the function of children stationery, activelymake use of traditional design concept, such as simplicity, thrift, modest andwisdom, combine local culture with modern design concepts, and in an effort tobring Chinese design to the world. |
