Large gears are usually as basic parts of large equipments, mainly used in machinery, traffic, metallurgy, mining, building materials, national defense, aerospace and other important department. Its quality and performance directly influence the machine’s technical economic indexes and economic indicator. Large gears have weaknesses such as long processing cycle, high cost, and always exist errors. Errors of the transmission system and dynamic characteristics of the precision have direct influences. Therefore, how to measure and control the gear processing errors need more explorations and discussions. For large gear test, especially the super large gear above2.5m in diameter, its precision and measurement efficiency were lower. Therefore, high accuracy, high efficiency of measuring method in the error measurement are important.At present on-line detection is the most common gear measurement technology, but the gear cutting process must be stopped during the measuring, Which influences the efficiency of gear-making machine and the enterprise’s economic benefit. The article combined the actual project studied a large involute spur gear error measuring system. Measurement systems uses computer as control center, with probe sensor to collect data, using X-Y-Z displacement platform and rotating stage to achieve the exact location of the mathematical point, which makes the large gear error measurement come true. Meanwhile it can realize automatic measurement of tooth profile, circular pitch and helix deviation.The main research contents are as follows:1. Plan the path of profile deviation, tooth pitch deviation and helix deviation, determine the design of programmes. The system makes the measurement according to the different user choice.2. This paper has successfully developed the hardware and drive control module of measurement system for large gear, the high-precision moving platform is used in the measurement system. The measurement system resolves the traditional measurement problems such as low accuracy and long cycle,etc.3. According to the actual function of measurement system, nine function modules about the software system are developed using Visual C++6.0.4. It completed the design and integration of software and hardware system, and ultimately developed large involute spur gear error measuring system. The measuring accuracy of the system satisfies the demand in industrial application.
