The tangent line of involute helical gear is slantwise, its superposition is larger than spur gear. Besides, when it works as transferring motion, the gear tooth can mesh in or out with gradual state, so smooth transmission and huge carrying capacity can be taken among its strong points. Because of this, the involute helical gear has extensive application in transmission gear with high speed. But affected by manufacturing and installation error, deformation which caused by stress in transmission process, the involute helical gear can not mesh in academic tangent line, so they bring the attack, vibration and uneven load distribution. The adverse influence can be enlarged in transmission gear with high speed. However, smooth and reliable are required in it, so it becomes important to research on tooth profile modification.Otherwise, empirical equation is still used in the gear manufacturer recently, especially, the tooth profile modification of spur gear is also used in involute helical gear, it’s hard to meet the requests of transmission gear with high speed. Along with the development of the finite element method, this article will analyze the tooth profile modification of involute helical gear by Pro/E which is used for3D modeling and ANSYS-Workbench which is used for finite element analysis, the finial conclusion will be checked by experiment.The main work done in this paper is as follows:1. The theoretical analysis. On the basis of elastic meshing theory of gearing and elastic mechanics, the article analyze the cause of attack and vibration in involute helical gear with high speed. So it can explain the importance of tooth profile modification. And then the article will introduce the three parameters of tooth profile modification.2.3D modeling. The article writes the parameterized program in Pro/E, so it can generate the expected involute helical gear with the transformable parameters. Besides, the position of engagement will be defined in Pro/E, so it can be used to emulate.3. The finite element analysis. With the use of interface order between Pro/E and ANSYS-Workbench, the paper lead the3D model in ANSYS-Workbench, it can emulate the elastic deformation, equivalent stress and contact stress before and after tooth profile modification under the certain load and different method of tooth profile modification. At last, it shows that Long/Parabola modification can be the viable method for the research.4. The experimental verification. The experiment will be done at a corporation in Nanjing, it can detect the vibration parameter of involute helical gear with high speed after tooth profile modification. It gets the amplitude of different gear box with diverse modification and working condition. Finally, the experimental data confirm that amplitude of the gear box which works on rated working condition with Long/Parabola modification is least.
