Water-Jet, as a new and practical technology, is widely used in many fields. As one of its main application, Water-Jet cutting has been gradually attracting people’s attention due to its incomparable advantages compared with traditional cutting methods. Thus, it is the improvement of research as well as application on Water-Jet cutting that becomes the focus and hotspot in the field of water-jet flow.The traditional water-jet cutting machine can only be used in the simple plane cutting. Besides, the traditional method may reduce the quality of of cutting owing to taper cutting in cross-section. And this situation stems mainly from the existence of energy gradient. These factors limit the application range of the traditional water-jet cutting machine. Recently, the market has seen some kinds of five-axis or six-axis water-jet cutting machine which could sovle the problem above. However, we note that it is not economic for some industry which only need small taper cutting due to its complex structure and high cost. In the context of this situation, it is still significant to develop the high cost performance water-jet cutting machine with the function of vertical and taper cutting.The four-axis numerical controlled abrasive water-jet cutter with a cantilever beam studied in this paper has the characteristics such as simple structure, easy loading and unloading, lightweight and flexible, low price and so on. The machine we proposed has effectively modified the disadvantage of traditional machine and largely expanded the scope of application. The improvemet including the structure of the separation between machine body and cutting platform, adding the revolving axles and manual operate axles which can achieve the vertical cutting and tamper cutting in the range of±10degree on any graphics. This paper primarily studies the following aspect.1(1) Fixed the overall design scheme of super-high pressure system after the comparison of the existing pressurized manners. The main parts of the function module in the super-high pressure system are designed and selected. The three-dimensional model and the mathematical model are also established. Then we verify its dynamic characteristics by the software of simulink and the results show that it has good features and meets the design requirements.(2) Comparing the layout of the current machine and taking actual situation into consideration, we provide the whole design scheme of the four-axis numerical controlled abrasive water-jet cutter with a cantilever beam. We finished the design of the main structure, such as two-dimensional numerical controlled platform, water channel, abrasive feeding device, four-axis cutting head, moreover the calculation of feed system. The three-dimensional model of water-jet cutting machine is also established based on Pro/E software.(3) Analyze the dynamic and static characteristics of the cantilever beam by the software ANSYS Workbench. Based on analysis results, we optimized the structure of cantilever beam in order to increase the rigidity.(4) The cutting experiment was completed after the prototype debugging.The experimental results show that the machine can realize vertical cutting and small taper cutting.we can draw a conclusion that the machine meets the design requirements basically.
