Research On Risk Control In Drilling Operations Based On Safety Barriers

In the process of oil exploration and development, there are a variety of risks thatcan cause accidents because of the complex drilling technology and special drillingconditions. Once the accident occurs, it may lead to serious accident consequences, suchas casualties and economic losses. Also it can bring negative social influence. In order toensure the smooth and safe of the drilling operation, the research of the risk control In theoperation process has the important significance.In this paper, the research of risk control based on the theory of safety barrier iscarried out, combining with the practical situation of XX drilling company of Daqing oilfield. It is concluded that the accident was caused mainly by the failure of safety barrier，and the method to control the risk is to establish effective security barrier. The paper firstexpounded the concept, classification, and performance requirements of safety barrier. Then formulated the drilling risk control framework, and put forward three aspects tocontrol the drilling: a. Operation risk control, using the job hazard analysis (JHA) toidentify and classify the risk in drilling process; b. Drilling equipment risk control, usingthe failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) to analyze the key equipment of drillingoperation; c. Analysis of major accidents in drilling operation, as an example, usingbow-tie motel to analysis the blowout accident. Find the cause of the blowout accident bybuilding the blowout accident tree based on the principle of safety barrier, and theconsequences of blowout accident by building the blowout event tree. Then, formulaterisk control measures.
