In the production of the oil industry, with the expanding range of oil and gas exploitation anddrilling technology improves, people have higher demands for both the quality and durability ofdrilling equipments. The mud pump is one of the most important machinery in drillingproduction, liner is easy wear parts for the pump, every working cycle will have a number ofliners lose effectiveness due to high pressure load and wear, and then disassembly andreplacement. Therefore, in order to ensure the reliability and maintain high productionefficiency of the mud pump, it is necessary to research on the failure situation, improve thewear resistance and other related issues of liner. This pape is based on the finite element method, analyzed the wear mechanism and failureconditions of mud pump liner, discussed the main methods to improve its wear resistance; thenthe study is based on the relationship of the micro-modellings and wear resistance, the conceptof micro-modelling structure is introduced into the design of the liner’s inner surface. Researchon two different micro-structures of inner surfaces of liners, used CAE platform of AltairHyperWorks and ABAQUS software for tools such as computer aided tests and finite elementanalysis for the models, get the strain distribution, the stress distribution and thermal structurecharacteristics of inner surfaces of the liners in the same ideal working condition, and comparedwear resistance of three kinds of inner surfaces of liners. Finally, the liner was checked strengthand analysed the fatigue life what will provide a theoretical reference for the application ofmicro-moldelling surface and microstructure technology. The results showed that: under thesame operating conditions, wear resistance of the selected two kinds of inner surfaces of linersare superior to the ordinary liner’s, wherein fluted inner surfaces of liner has the optimal wearresistance.
