TDS, short for Top Drive System, is the cutting-edge technology and device of the oil drilling equipment. The appearing of the TDS replaces the use of kelly on the traditional method of drilling. The TDS is used to rotate drill string from the upper derrick, and sent down along the specialized rails in the space of the derrick. It completes the operations of rotary drilling, circulating of the drilling fluid, connection, make-and-break, back reaming and so on. During many years of research and development, the technology of TDS continually gets rid of the stale and brings forth the fresh. With the deepening of the drilling for oil and gas resources, developing the TDS for deep and ultradeep drilling becomes an urgent demand.The TDS of DQ-90, specialized for the drilling depth of9,000m, faces many problems on about the complex geological environment in the process of drilling. It still has to be omni-directionally and whole-life-cycle improved by the modern design method and theory. In this paper, it concentrates on the exploration and research of the building of the TDS’ virtual prototype, and struggles to provide a design platform for the TDS of DQ-90.Firstly, this article analyzes the structural compositions of the TDS. Combined with the design requirements of the TDS for9,000m depth and compared with some typical structures of TDS’critical sections, it takes out a structure of the TDS for9,000m depth. Secondly, it analyzes the system framework of the virtual prototype for TDS and illuminates its functional model and key technologies. According to the system framework of the virtual prototype for TDS, it builds the virtual prototype of the DQ-90TDS with the modular modeling method in the software of SolidWorks. Lastly, it researches the reliability design of the virtual prototype and analyzes the method of design, analysis and simulation of the reliability based on the virtual prototype. It gets the degree of reliability of the TDS’main axis’ static strength in the use of the ANSYS-PDS according to the method of reliability design of the virtual prototype and provides the ways to improve its degree of reliability.
