The plant Catharanthusroseus (Apocynaceae) is widely distributed in tropical and semitropical regions. Up to now, over100indole alkaloids have been isolated from this plant. Vinblastine and vincristine are the two typical indole alkaloids isolated from this plant in the1950-1960s, which were used in clinic for the treatment of various leukemias, Hodgkin’s disease, and solid tumors. The synthesis of derivatives has been the subject of a considerable amount of work in the past years to find new structures with higher antitumour activities and lower side effects. The chemical constituents of Catharanthus are reviewed, including molecular formulas, structures, CAS numbers, in molecular weight ascending order. This thesis mainly describes research result of the alkaloids of methanol extract of whole plants catharanthus roseus, collected in the Heinan Province of China. With the aim of searching for indole alkaloids with new structures, we also have carried out the phytochemical investigations on the of this plant. The residue was dissolved in H2O to form a suspension, and then adjusted to pH2with H2SO4. The acidic suspension was partitioned with petroleum ether to remove the neutral components. The aqueous phase was basified with NaOH to pH12and then extracted with CHCl3to obtain a total alkaloid part (31.0g).30compounds were obtained from total alkaloid part by means of silical gel column chromatography (CC), preparative thin layer chromatography (PTLC) and High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) etc, and elucidated by spectroscopic methods:UV, IR, EIMS,HREMIMS,1D NMR (1H NMR,13C NMR and DEPT135),2D NMR(1H-1HCOSY, HMQC, HMBC and NOESY) along with comparison the data from literatures. They include17yohimbine alkaloids (WCR-1*, from WCR-3to WCR-18),9aspidosperminealkaloids (WCR-2*, from WCR-19to WCR-26), ibogaine alkaloids (WCR-27), other commom types (WCR-28and WCR-29) and dimer indole alkaloids (WCR-30), two of them (WCR-1*and WCR-2*) are new compounds.
