In the process of producing the carpet, no matter piece carpet or board-loom carpet,the tension of backing material can have a significant impact on the quality and costof the carpet that is produced by the tufting machine. The variation tension along thelength of the backing material will result in a corresponding variation in the numberof stitches per mm, the density and the pattern of the tufted carpet. In summary, theconstant tension control and deviation rectification play an important role in tuftedcarpet product.In the study of tension controlling and deviation rectification system on the backingmaterial of tufting machine, the existing methods are researched and analyzed. Andthese methods are used to improve the backing material feeding system on the tuftingmachine. According to the operating principle and its structure, the scenarios of thevery system are designed.The principle of the method is using the mass of the fluctuating roller to control thetension indirectly. Besides, the mechanism utilized to control the tension is promoted.Moreover, during the feeding process of the backing material, the position of thefluctuating roller is controlled in order to keep the value of the tension constant. Sincethe possibility of existing longitudinal force between backing material and pilot roller,caused by uneven thickness of the backing material or incorrect settlement, thebacking material will be pulled to one side. Deviation rectification control systemadopts photoelectric deviation rectification device, of which the photoelectric sensorcan real-timely monitor the edge of the backing material and meanwhile the motorused for drive and adjust the mechanism so that the deviation can be provided.Because of the indeterminacy of the mathematical model predigest from the actual backing material feeding system, the traditional PID control method can not workeffectively. However, the accurate mathematical model of that system is not neededby using fuzzy control method and meticulous control can be achieved by establishingvariable control regulations based on experience, common senses. In this paper, fuzzylogic and fuzzy control method are studied; a fuzzy control method based on PLCtechnology is promoted in order to accomplish constant tension control. In addition,transducer and relating technologies are used to adjust the position of the fluctuatingroller to reach the control goal.As the result of the simulation, the constant tension control and deviationrectification system, based on fuzzy control technology, is obviously effective and thefuzzy control method based on PLC technology can realize constant tension controland deviation rectification simply and quickly and also valuable and practical.
