Mixed traffic is the basic characteristic of urban road traffic in China. In order tocompete for the limited time and space resources, road users (motor vehicles,two-wheeled vehicles and pedestrians) are easy to make traffic conflicts. The conflictsbetween road users, especially vehicle-bicycle conflict at the intersection, is themainly reason that cause traffic congestion and traffic accidents. In order to improvethe running efficiency and the traffic safety of the intersection, this paper focuses onthe mechanism of vehicle-bicycle conflict and its solutions at the signalizedintersections.Traffic flow characteristics of two-wheeled vehicles, including macroscopiccharacteristic (speed and crossing time), the arrival characteristic, the two-wheeledvehicles group characteristic and red light running behavior at signalized intersectionsare analyzed with mathematical statistics method based on the survey ofvehicle-bicycle conflict. The similarities and differences of traffic flow characteristicsare compared between regular bicycles and electric bikes at the intersection.A comprehensive vehicle-bicycle conflict is established using the theory ofkinematics and video detection technology, taking the conflict angle, speed, distanceand deceleration as key indicators based on the vehicle-bicycle conflict of definition, process analysis and classification.A prediction model is established according to the signal phase usingClassification and Regression Tree model, from the view of two-wheeled vehiclescyclists and motor vehicle drivers, combined with real-life scene and virtual scene, topredict the probability of vehicle-bicycle conflict. We find that acceleration(deceleration) and volume of two-wheeled vehicles, the volume of motor vehicle turnright are the main factors that affect vehicle-bicycle conflict at the urban signalizedintersection, and motor vehicle drivers are lack of alertness of two-wheeled vehicleswhen facing vehicle-bicycle conflict, which can be the guidance for applications. With the help of traffic micro-simulation software VISSIM, we try to verify thereliability of the factors that affect vehicle-bicycle conflict. Compares with differentsignal control programs by simulation, we find that set the dedicated right-turn phasefor motor vehicle will help to alleviate vehicle-bicycle conflict, reduce motor vehicle traffic delays and improve the service level of the intersection, we propose thecondition for setting the dedicated right-turn phase, providing guidance for signaltiming, intersection drainage and alleviating vehicle-bicycle conflict problem.
