Abstract/Summary:
With the popularization of electric bicycles and shared bicycles, the enhancement of green travel and environmental protection concepts, the traffic demand for non-motorized vehicles in the city has increased greatly. But because of the delay in the construction of non-motor vehicle lanes,it has been criticized because it cannot guarantee the safe and continuous traffic space of non-motorized vehicles, especially at the entrance of intersections, conflicts between right-turning motor vehicles and non-motorized vehicles that travel straight are more frequent. As a vulnerable party to conflict, the safety and efficiency of non-motor vehicles are difficult to guarantee. Therefore,it is of great practical significance to clarify the characteristics of vehicle-bicycle conflict, compare the effects of various non-motor vehicle traffic space optimization measures, quantify the relationship between the number of vehicle-bicycle conflict and traffic flow background and facility design, etc.,and thus to propose the targeted optimization plan.In this paper, the conflict between the right-turn motor vehicle and the straight non-motor vehicle at the entrance of the intersection is the research object.Firstly, based on the design features of non-motor vehicle lanes at intersections, seven intersections in Changsha City are selected as the survey points, and the survey video is analyzed by using T-Analyst video detection software to obtain the traffic flow and conflict index data of right-turn motor vehicles and straight non-motor vehicles, analyze the vehicle-bicycle traffic flow differences at the entrances of different types of intersections. Then, based on the three elements of conflict direction, conflict initiative, and cause of conflict, the non-conflicts are divided into 8 types and their conflict characteristics are analyzed. The causes and degree of discrimination from vehicle-bicycle passage space,vehicle-bicycle traffic flow and traffic road users’ bad riding(driving)behavior are explored.Thirdly, based on three conflict indicators, the different characteristics and optimization effects of traffic conflicts are analyzed from three aspects that are the width of non-motor vehicle lanes,vehicle-bicycle segregation measures and vehicle-bicycle pre-vehicle factors on the setting of yield signs.Fourth, through the establishment of Bayesian random effect Poisson-log normal model and random effect negative binomial regression model,non-motorized lane facility factors, the vehicle-bicycle flow factors and other factors for vehicle-bicycle conflict count are quantitatively analyzed, and the discrimination index of the severity of conflict is constructed to analyze various types of vehicle-bicycle conflict.Research results show that the random effect Poisson-log normal model can better fit vehicle-bicycle conflict data set than the random effect negative binomial regression model. Finally, based on the research results of this paper,a method for optimal design of non-motorized lanes at the intersection entrance is proposed, and a case is used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the method. In this paper, the characteristics of vehicle-bicycle traffic flow, the mechanism of vehicle-bicycle conflict, the Bayesian model and the severity of vehicle-bicycle conflict, and the optimization design of non-motor vehicle lanes are studied. The research results can provide a reference and basis for the design and optimization of the continuous traffic space of the non-motor vehicle lane at the entrance of the intersection.
