Water pump is the core components of the automobile engine cooling system; itsperformance directly determines the running status of engine. With the rapiddevelopment of automobile industry in our country, solving the existing technicalproblem of cooling water pump including power consumption, low efficiency to ensurethat the engine can be long-term, safe, reliable and efficient operation has become aresearch priority for automobile engine cooling system.Based on cooling water pump as the research object, this thesis adopted thecombination of structural design, numerical simulation and prototype experimentresearch methods, improved and designed a cooling water pump impeller with newshape characteristics and technical parameters. From disclosure and performanceinspection of the designed cooling water pump impeller, flow field calculation andanalysis of the cooling water pump has been implemented, and the theoretical analysisresults has been inspected through the prototype manufacturing and test. Main contentfor this thesis includes:①Based on the basic theory of centrifugal pump, a new shape characteristics andtechnical parameters of the cooling water pump impeller has been put forward throughdeeply analysis the traditional design method of cooling water pump which is acentrifugal pump under the special application, and introducing the cycloid as a bladetype line replacing the exits blade type line, and adopting the idea of length of bladearrangement, blade outlet repair methods and so on.②Based on computation fluid dynamic theory, the mathematic model of coolingwater pump including k turbulence model, the SIMPLEC pressure speed couplingalgorithm is established. And then through the commercial CFD software FLUENT, theflow field of cooling water pump with different impeller and under different inlet flowis calculated. Following on, the corresponding pressure distribution of flow field and thevelocity vector diagram are received. Through comparative analysis with the existingimpeller, the cooling water pump external characteristic parameters are obtained, whichdemonstrate the feasibility of methods that using cycloid as blade type line, the lengthof blade arrangement and repairing outlet blade.③By Trial-manufacturing the cooling water pump prototype, conducting a contrast research of the before and after improvement on the water pump test platformto show the feasibility and effectiveness of the impeller design, test the conclusion ofthe thesis related theory research.This thesis improved and designed a cooling water pump impeller with new shapecharacteristics and technical parameters. Then theoretical analysis carrying on,following with the completing the prototype experimental study. The results show thatthe improved impeller can improve the efficiency by more than5%, which is notparticularly large, but the power consumption decline largely, reached more than30%,which realized the design target of reducing power consumption, improving theefficiency of the cooling water pump. This thesis concerned the design of the coolingwater pump and the flow field analysis method has certain reference value for the sametype automobile cooling system water pump both in theory and application.
