As the improvement of the living standard, in vehicle system, in the final analysis iscaused by the frequent separation and engagement of the in vehicle’s starting or shiftingprocess. So the object of study is dry friction clutch which is most widely used at present,modeling in detail for the driveline which including clutch dynamics by considering thetorque transfer problem in actual physical system on starting up of the vehicle.The complex dynamic characteristics of the clutch slipping process makes the vehiclestarting or shifting operation more difficulty, so it is necessary to study the control ofclutch slipping process on starting up of the vehicle. In actual operation, parameters of theclutch transmission efficiency, the spring and damping coefficient of equivalenttransmission, the friction torque of the wheels and the ground, road slope are uncertain.According to system parameters uncertainty and external disturbance, this paper using theequivalent transform and Backstepping control method with Lyapunov stability analysistechnology and design the adaptive tracking controller. The simulation validation of clutchslipping controller is carried out on the original system and compared with PID control toprove the effectiveness of the adaptive controller. At the same time, a constant speedtracking controller is designed for clutch engaged process. The simulation analysis ofclutch dynamic process which including clutch slipping process and clutch engagedprocess is carried out.After the problem of the clutch slipping control in the process of starting up is solved,the speed tracking in the switching control of the clutch slipping and engagement processbecomes another problem. Considering the uncertainty of the dynamic characteristics ofengine, external resistance and friction torque parameters, we designed two nonlinearadaptive controller which containing adaptive tracking controllers and parameter adaptivelaws for the clutch slipping process and clutch engaged process on the simplified modelwith considering the engine dynamics. By controlling the engine inlet flow instead ofengine torque as the control input, the simulation results show that in the presence ofparameter variations and load, the controller can guarantee the precise estimate of the uncertain parameters and precise speed tracking. Finally, design a switching controllerbetween the clutch slipping process and clutch engaged process by judging the differencebetween the clutch speed and engine speed, realizes the smooth starting up of the car.
