An Interpretation On Appearances And Combinations Of Timber-composed Pattern In Affiliated Architecture Of The Chinese Eastern Railway

The Chinese Eastern Railway is a cross-border railway, extending from Russiato China’s northeast region in the late19th century. The construction of this railway,lead to the initiation of various industries, such as transportation, finance, culture，etc. Also, it leads to the emergence of a large number of buildings associated withthese industries. Collectively, we call these buildings“accessory architecture”ofthe Chinese Eastern Railway. And the variety timber-composed appearance is adistinctive feature in this affiliated architecture. Through the research on thepatterns and characteristics of timber-composed appearance, not only canunderstand the accessory architecture’s timber system clearly and intuitively,making up the research of accessory architecture in microscopic aspects, but alsoprovide a basis for the protection and restoration of the Chinese Eastern Railwayarchitecture.It takes the basic properties of timber-composed as the starting point in thispaper, analyzed from three aspects, like the geographical property, function property,and cultural property, which reflect the impact factors of timber-composedappearance in the process of changing and developing. According to the results, wecan recognize the fundamental impact of basic properties on the timber-composedappearance, and provide a better understanding of it.Taking timber components’ priority and indispensable function as a basis， wecan classify the timber components of accessory architecture into four types. Theyare supporting structural components, constructing space components, usingfunctional components, and expression decorative components. Each type of timbercomponents has its own unique features and multiple timber-composed appearances,which show unique timber features of the Chinese Eastern Railway accessoryarchitecture.The paper summarizes the patterns of timber-composed appearance intwo aspects.On the one hand, this paper classify a large number of timbercomponents on the basis of field research, and some mapping data of historicalbuilding, and on the other, analyze the detail of a single timber component.There are some unique characteristics in the process of generation andexpression of timber-composed appearance，which makes the timber-cmposedappearance to be the unique one. It is the characteristics that make the ChineseEastern Railway timber-composed appearance rich and colorful. This paper analyzesthe assembly rules of timber-composed appearance in the process of generation andexpression, from timber itself composing ways, as well as timber and othercomposing ways. Thus, the timber-composed system can be revealed clearly. In short, the paper take the timber-cmposed appearance in " accessoryarchitecture"of the Chinese Eastern Railway as a research object, and analyzes itfrom its basic properties, forms, and composing-ways. Thus, the patterns andcharacteristics of timber-composed appearance will be clarified in three aspect, frombasis, carriers, to impressions, so that the timber system can be known and graspedmore clearly.
