The laws of water supply in college apartments directly relate to theconfiguration of secondary water supply system (SWSMS) and the selection of theoperation schemes, which concerns building energy consumption directly. Due to thelack of data about water consumption, understanding the real water-using processescomprehensively and accurately is difficult. So the research about energyconsumption of water supply only remains a theoretical target.By real-time monitoring the water use in SWSMS, comparing and analysis thedata, this paper studies the laws of tap water and toilet washing, which includes thefluctuation pattern of maximum daily flow rate, maximum hourly flow rate, maximum instantaneous flow rate and minimum flow rate at midnight, as well as theirchanging curves. Meanwhile, this paper also analyzes and discusses the influences onwater consumption of college apartments, which include the scale of apartment, weekend, holiday, season, temperature, user type, and so on. This will offersuggestions to the revision of college apartments’ water quota and the formulation ofthe proportion of tap water use and toilet washing use.By analyzing the monitoring results, the research shows that there are alwaysthree peak points and a low point at midnight in both the fluctuation curve of tapwater and that of flushing water in college apartments, but these points appear atrandom. For tap water, peak volume mostly appears at night, while for flushing water, peak volume mostly appears in the morning. It’s evident that water consumption ofcollege apartments is influenced by weekend, holiday, season, temperature, and so on.On holidays, for example, water consumption accounts for only32percent of that ofother days, and there exist only two peak volumes, the first one peaks2hours later inthe morning, while the second one peaks1.5hours earlier in the evening than otherdays. Moreover, through monitoring the water consumption, this paper proposed thateach student living in college apartments in Tianjin consume3.5cubic meters permonth, among them, girls consume21.3%water more than boys. Leakage of pipelineis0.225L per second, which accounts for11.25%of max day flow rate,including7.10%of pipeline water inside the buildings and7.62%of pipeline water outside thebuildings. Lastly, based on water consumptions of different hours, different seasons, especially midnight and holidays, this paper improves to optimize the original watersupply scheme, which could better meet the actual water use, and achieve switching indifferent flows, different hours and different seasons, working efficiently all the time. The research shows that after using the new scheme, the energy consumption of tapwater system can be reduced by34%, and that of toilet washing system25%, whichprovides reference materials for designing and optimizing of water supply system ofthe same kind of buildings.
