Streets are the main urban fabric of the city, which embodies the prosperity andfashion as well as revealing the change through time. Street front elevations are themain elements of the street space, which embodied the street characteristics as well asthe functionality and urban context. With the rapid development and the expansion ofthe cities in our country, the contrast between the old and new architecture becomeobvious, the problems such as aging of building material, disorder mixture of colors,and chaos in building facades are especially eminent in the city street front elevationswhich destroy the integrity and identity of city fabric.This article first analyze the city background, street and people together with theunderstanding of the relative research nationally and internationally to clarify themeaning and aim. Through the understanding and summarizing the theory of the streetfront elevations to establish the knowledge of street front elevation reforming, and at thesame time analyze and classify the elements of the street front elevations. Secondlythrough the summarizing the nowadays condition of street front elevations, togetherwith the analysis of the practice of the street front elevations national wide to concludethe design principles and strategies help to improve the design in all involve stages.From the early researches and the material collection to the interpretation and analyzingas well as to the specific design details in order to from a theoretically strong as well asreasonably integrate street front elevations reforming theory and strategies. At lastapplying "Renovation Design of Shiling Street. Xuanhan. Dazhou" project as anexample to practice and test the theory and strategies.
