The aging process of China’s rapid development makes the elderly pension problemincreasingly serious, pension institutions is becoming more and more perfect in the trial. As inour country be just unfolding pension facilities--apartments for the elderly, due to itsdecentralized family endowment do not have health care facilities, and do not have otherpension institutions family-style warmth and kindness, more and more by the vast number ofelderly people in love. The apartment for the aged in China and some existing in the previousnursing homes or homes for the elderly based on the transformation, some are in no betterstandards of building construction, design principle of most apartments for the elderly and earlyconstruction has not adapted to the contemporary needs of older persons. Based on the analysisof the actual survey of elderly apartments in Nanjing city and related literature, through theresearch and analysis of basic physiology, psychology, behavior demand and basic condition ofNanjing city elderly people living life, according to "the elderly architectural norms"(JGJ122-99), referring to domestic and foreign excellent cases, communication space, thesurrounding environment in two aspects from the apartment for the aged are analyzed indesigning and planning of elderly apartments in Nanjing City, and puts forward some measuresto improve the construction of specific problems. Finally, the article summarized the suitabledesign principle of modern apartments for the elderly elderly residential demand. On this basis,points out that the development of modern high-tech, will make the apartment for the agedtendency of intelligent design in the future, so that more elderly people can share theachievements of science and technology.
