The removal efficiency of organics in water by ultra filtration is unsatisfactory, but activated carbon has the stronger adsorption to organics, color and bad smell&teast. Combining two technologies can improve the quality of effluent water to a large extent. When we used the ultrafiltration and activated carbon technology together,it was need different process condition. As the pretreatment of ultra filtration, activated carbon filter technology can reduce the pollution and extend service time of membrane. Arranging activated carbon technology in front will increase the load of activated carbon filter; nevertheless, the organic pollution of ultra filtration membrane cannot be controlled efficiently if activated carbon technology is behind the ultra filtration membrane. With propose of maximizing the superiority of the hyphenated technique, debugging of the process condition and pilot experiment was carried out in this paper.The flux, cleaning method of ultra filtration membrane and the backwashing way of activated carbon in the combined process are studied. The influence of temperature on combined process is also be investigated, and the results are as follows:Combined process worked well and the effluent water quality is best when flux of membrane is28.6L/m2-h. Air washing20s and water washing40s can get a prominent physical cleaning effect. The best dosing circulation cleaning time is10min, TMP can get maximum recover. The surface inclusion of activated carbon filter was cleaned up by10min backwashing with a filtration rate of eight times. The temperature can also affect the process operation.The control of turbidity, particular and CODMn by activated carbon filter in front technology is better than that of ultra filtration membrane in front technology. Removal efficiency of organic UV254with both two technologies is nearly, but activated carbon filter in front technology has a low trans-membrane pressure and is less influence by the change of temperature. Activated carbon filter in front technology is better than any other operation condition.
