With the urban development, technical progress and the change of social needs, urban public transportation has developed to integrated multi-functional transit hub with many lines and many traffic tools from single station and single line. The construction of urban transit hub has greatly improved the accessibility of the people gathering around the hub, and concentrated the population nearby. Thus convenient transportation may lead to the increase of working and dwelling demands as well as cultural needs such as urban business and social services, thus the centralization of population around the hub.Since the mixed development of railway station has brought its function changes, there has been a new change in the spatial pattern and form of stations and as a result, and a new rail transport complex was born. The traditional railway stations, with is sole spatial form, only meet the needs for basic transportation. They always have a station building with complicated and enclosed wait-rooms, roundabout traffic lines caused by separated railway yard and buildings, thus separate urban space seriously. The traditional spatial pattern could no longer meet the requirement of passengers and administrators, and the traditional railway stations could not adapt to a more rapid and complex traffic transfer pattern. There were many theories and practice progress in new type rail transit complex research published in80’s to90’s last century abroad. The thesis analyzes several typical foreign rail transit complex examples and finds the developing trend of open, transparent spatial form, emphasizes both functionality and community. This thesis selects from the foreign creative design skills to guide the design work of new type rail transport complex in China considering the real situation in China. This thesis sums up the history of rail transit complex and its recent experience of design theories and practices in China; analyzes the evolution of spatial form of traditional railway stations and points out the defects of traditional spatial form. At the same time, this thesis explores the creative design methods of station spatial form appeared nowadays from example analysis of several representative railway transit hubs; analyzes the significant effects and low carbon sustainable development brought by the new spatial form for transport architecture and its important contribution for the eco-city construction combining with the phenomenon of fast transfer and highly complex with the appearance of railway transit hub complex; and finally analyzes the current developing trend of rail transit complex, and puts forward several existing design problems and resolutions, and tries to find the direction of the further research and gives corresponding policy advice.
