Study On The Urban Spatial Morphology Of Jiahe In Hunan

Jiahe ancient city is located at the area of southern Hunan, which is the junctional area of Hunan, Guangdong and Jiangxi provinces. Having developed on the basis of original settlement that used to be warehouse fort for nearly 300 years, the ancient city is currently the best preserved ancient city that has the relatively large size at the whole Xiangnan area. With extraordinarily historical and cultural value, the ancient city was shaped unique spatial form and folk housing culture by its special geographical location and blending of multi-cultural.Based on the information of field-research study and the related historical documents, this paper takes Jiahe ancient city and its space form as the object of study and studies the spatial characteristics of the ancient city and its influencing factors from three aspects.First, starting from the basic situation of the Jiahe ancient city, the paper described its natural environment, historical and cultural environment, and summarized the spatialevolution process and characteristics from village to the town. Secondly, the paper discussed the elements of the ancient city spatial form, structure and spatial morphology, dividing the ancient city space form into three levels—the overall space, housing block space and street space. Subsequently, the paper summarized the main causes that affects the spacial form ofJiaheancient city into four aspects: the natural environment factors, political factors, social and cultural factors, economic and technological factors. Finally, the author maked a preliminary exploration on the protection of the ancient city of Jiahe, included the analysis of the existing problems,the protectional strategy and the protectional content and methods.By taking the field research of Jiahe ancient city, summarizing the spatial morphology characteristics, and analyzing the dominant factor that affectsits types of space form, this studyoffers basic research for the conservation of Jiahe ancient city and its development strategyin the future, also provide some useful complement to today's traditional settlement study and conservation.
