Suspension is an umbrella term for the links between vehicle body and wheels that transmit force between them. The wheels are the only part of vehicle that contact with the road, And the performance such as brake and handling are all depended by the friction between road and the tires. At the same time the suspension should work together with tires to cushion shock in order vehicle can get ride comfort and performance. Also suspension determines the passing ability of vehicle. So, as the only part of link between vehicle body and wheels, the performance of suspension was caught attention by automotive engineer.Firstly, the article described the effect of suspension in vehicle, explained the great influence on the controllability of vehicle by suspension. Secondly, the article briefly described how the suspension was matched in the process of vehicle designing. How the manufacturer made it possible to save development costs, short the development cycle, achieve design objective at same time. Thirdly, briefly introduced the theoretical basis of Virtual Prototype, detailedly introduced file structure of the Virtual Prototype ADAMS/Car. Then using a small formula car as an example, explained the structure of Virtual Prototype file. Also made the suspension of small formula car as the research object, explained the process of modeling property files of the spring, damper and engine. Fourthly made simulation and analysis of the front suspension virtual prototype, then the real vehicle test was made to compare with the simulation result. Then the handling and stability testing was made according to the national standard and the test evaluation method on the vehicle. The article also analyzed the date stored in the virtual prototype combining with the need of the work. Demonstrated the problem in the course of writing programs. The last part is the summarization of this article.The article made the Virtual Prototype Technology as the research object which was widely used in the process of automobile designing. Virtual Prototype Technology gives tremendous help in shorting the development cycle, saving on development costs, enhancing the product development efficiency. Obviously the Virtual Prototype Technology Virtual will play a more and more important role in automobile designing.
