The Exploration To Narrative Expression Of Memorial Landscapes In Wuhan

Memorial garden is a unique garden form which reflects the memories of the human population and carries different information. Now most studies on the memorial gardens focus on the design methods, while researchers always describe the events and the significance only by the means of expressing the narrative text, and the researches are lack of the use and discussion of narrative gardens. This article focuses on the memorial Gardens narrative expression which aims at the expression method of of memorial information in memorial gardens through the analysis of landscape narrative theories. It is expected to build the connection between human and memorial garden information, space and spirit by this method, which can make people understand the implicit memorial gardens historical events, urban culture and meaning connotations.The author expands the research by the means of a literature review, field research method, deduction induction, multidisciplinary and comparative research method. Through the study of the domestic and foreign landscape narrative theory and cases, we discuss deeply on the memorial garden narrative expression method. Firstly, this essay illustrates the concept, nature, basic theory and characteristics of landscape narrative, which includes elements, processes and forms, time and space dimensions, as well as static, linear and continuous organized mode. Secondly, the author go on the analysis deeply on the mechanisms and methods of memorial garden narrative expression, which includes the conversion mechanism between the three elements, rhetoric rules generated by the meaning, as well as names, sequences, revealing and hiding, combination and opening of the use of expression methods, etc. Thirdly, this paper summarizes the causes, classification and commemorative functions of Wuhan memorial gardens. It also concludes the main causes of memorial garden are the impaction by both geography and history cultural. The memorial type can be divided into four aspects including historical events type, human commemorate type, historic sites type and the myths legends type. This garden type can reflect the spirit of creation, the real record, emotional resonance and educational revelation on function. Finally, this study as an example of Wuhan city sums up its narrative expression approach through the analysis and discussion of the narrative expression in commemorative landscape in the last part of essay.Based on the theory of narrative landscape induction, this study analysis the narrative process of expression in memorial gardens, and summaries the application of garden narrative methods in memorial gardens in Wuhan City. It is expected to provide new ideas of memorial gardens and landscape design in Wuhan in the future.
