With the transformation of consumption pattern and the arrival of experience economy era, the customers’thoughts are more and more difficult to grasp. The consumption trend with individuation and diversity makes people want to show their unique personality and taste through products and services. However, to the restaurant, the final battlefield of its business activities should be the soul of customers, approaching and catering for the customers with products or services of which full of individuation. The closer getting to customers, the bigger opportunity of the restaurant will be successful. The appearance of theme restaurants exactly caters for the changeable catering consumer demand. It expresses great charm by moving the "gods" chosen by the restaurant through the products and services of customization, individuation and differentiation.21st century is the era stressing characteristic, performing on the consuming behaviors. The popular pattern no longer fits people’s taste, with pursuit of consumption character becoming a fashion trend. Under such historical background, the theme restaurant aiming to satisfy the catering consumption demand will become a new fashion trend. Such theme restaurant which satisfies people to enjoy consumption environment more than just eating was firstly invented by Americans in1980s. It soon became fashionable all over the world with its unique operating practice. However, the domestic theme restaurants also have many shortcomings in aspect of reflecting thematic concept. For instance, the storefront lacks identifiability; the design is superficial, lacking of thematic connotation; the theme cannot throughout the whole restaurant; the theme restaurants have a smaller proportion in the countrywide catering circle, without enough development.The thesis firstly discussed the basic concept, characteristics and space functions of theme restaurant in detail. On the basis of preamble analysis, it made detailed analysis of the design of theme restaurant, discussing in aspect of spatial arrangement, indoor decoration, indoor furnishings and the design of material texture, color and lights, studying how each spatial component shows the thematic concept in the theme restaurant. Then the thesis creatively put forward five design philosophies in aspect of functionality, individuality. economy, embodiment and culture according to the thematic and cultural characteristics, made instance analysis of theme restaurant, summarize a set of reasonable indoor space theme design methods and had design practice on the basis of design principles suggested by this thesis.
