Along with the application and development of the information technology in all walks of life, the shipping industry is also experiencing the intelligent and digital revolution. AIS as an important navigational tools in the shipping industry, in recent years the state pay more and more attention on it. The country not only promotes the construction of the AIS infrastructure, but also encourages the development and popularization of AIS products. At present, China has developed some AIS on-board equipment and put into the market, after the actual test and use, related technology has also matured. On the other hand, the AIS navigation equipment has made a lot of study and achieved certain results, but the results remain in the simulation stage, the real product is relatively small. In view of this situation, this paper proposes a AIS navigation design based on ARM, which contributes to the development of AIS navigation product.This paper firstly introduces the AIS navigation concept and development status at home and abroad, and then analyzes the technical characteristics of AIS navigation. After fully understanding the basic principle of AIS navigation work, puts forward the design scheme of hardware and software. Hardware design make up of AIS communication module and navigation aids data acquisition module, the key of AIS communication module is the wireless transceiver module, it directly affects the performance of AIS navigation, which is the most difficult part of the whole design; In the software design, on the one hand, introduced the embedded program design of ARM terminal, its basic framework is the task form. On the other hand, specially introduced the test software for AIS navigation, the software is not only an important tool for inspection and maintenance, but also a major innovation in the design. Finally, article deeply analysis the message format and protocol, and realizes the functional test of AIS navigation terminal by testing the software on the PC, further deepen to the navigation protocol and message understanding.
