In China the railway transport is not only the forerunner of the economy and society development, but also the backbone of the transport industry. The security issue is the eternal topic of railway transport and the prerequisite to the development of railway. The railway signal system, which is consisted of a large number of various railway signal equipments, is the important guarantee of the railway transport safety. The signal equipment fault, which is characterized by diversity, randomness and complexity, is the important influencing factor for railway transport safety. Thus, there is an urgent need to improve the railway signal maintenance man’s ability to deal with equipment faults or urgencies so that the faults could be handled timely and precisely with shorter fault delay, and finally the railway safety is protected. With the performances and fault characteristics of signal equipments combined, a new system, the Troubleshooting Decision Support System Based on Microcomputer Monitoring, is researched and implemented.At present, microcomputer monitoring system is applied to obtain the status of railway signal equipment in China, which fails in the diagnosis and maintenance decision making of certain equipment fault. Aiming at the problem, the new system proposed here, which obtains relevant data from microcomputer monitoring system, employs several cooperating agents to finish the tasks of comprehensive monitoring, diagnosis, and maintenance management with diagnosis result and maintenance schedule.With the agent technology in Artificial Intelligence introduced to build the decision support system, each agent be in charge of certain management task as a intelligent computing entity. The project mainly includes two tasks:building the decision support system and implementing the fault diagnosis technology and the latter is mainly completed here.Firstly, the relevant research status is studied, and a preliminary study on microcomputer monitoring system, decision support system, railway signal equipment and fault diagnosis is implemented. Secondly, the agent technology and the structure and function of the system are sketched. Finally, as the core part, the Fault Diagnosis Module in system is researched and implemented. With an agent managing the tasks to complete the fault diagnosis distributed by the system, the module also is called Signal Diagnosis Agent(SDA).In addition, a set of agents, which are responsible for preliminary fault diagnosis about certain equipments and are named as Equipment Analysis Agents(EAAs), are designed referring to Object Control System(OCS) of Bombardier. When the equipment breaks down, certain EAA receives diagnosis request and diagnoses the submitted fault for a preliminary result, which is then passed on to SDA for following verifying, locating and diagnosis of the fault. SDA provides several algorithms with users to deal with various faults in order to complete fault diagnosis. Taking Microsoft Visual Studio as development environment, the decision support system is developed with C#, with which the user can interact dynamically, and thus the decision support of railway signal equipment fault diagnosis, which is based on microcomputer monitoring system, is implemented.
