With the rapid economic development, when the human beings enjoy the comfort and convenience because of material civilization, at the same time, we faced with the problems such as environmental degradation, resource depletion, soil erosion, which has seriously affected the living environment of human beings, it is imperative to create a comfortable and healthy living environment from the aspect of ecological and sustainable development. China has a large territory and its ecological environment shows a variety of characteristics, traditional houses mode is also different. Working people have built living space based on the environmental characteristics for a long time, these traditional houses are in harmony with nature, energy conservation, environmental protection, self-regulating indoor micro-climate, which make them good examples in the way of ecological adaptability. Modern buildings are often using expensive high-tech equipments to improve the indoor environment, which is not only a waste of resources, but also make houses and ecological environment seriously out of line and is not good for a long-term development of the community. The status of the deterioration of the environment makes people begin to realize the importance of building houses according to environment. To study historic ancient villages and houses, ecological adaptability from the perspective of topography, hydrology, vegetation, climate and environment, we can sum up that ecological experience and building technology can play a enlightening part in the construction of today’s towns and villages. Inheritance and development of traditional ecological construction can not only provide modern architecture with ecological ideas, but also play a essential role in building traditional houses.Ancient village of the Shanxi Yuci Hougou located in the Loess Plateau with a unique ecological environment is so far relatively well preserved and is a typical example in the Jingzhong district. The author takes ancient villages and ecological adaptability to the environment as a starting point through several visits and researches, analyze the various impacts of the ecological environment in Hougou ancient villages from the aspects of topography, climate and environment, we make a conclusion that at some point the ecological environment affects significantly the formation and development of the old villages. By analysis of the changes of Hougou old villages in the process of adapting to the ecological environment, we sum up the essence of the local traditional houses in order to better applied to the design and development of the local building. Through a comprehensive analysis of the villages and kiln-dwelling, the author also found Hougou encountered the dilemma of development as well as some impact on the living comfort. Based on the theoretical approaches from the former and existing problems between traditional cave-dwelling buildings and new built houses, the author boldly put forward the green transformation program in order to achieve the comfort of households. The city’s expansion leads to the depression and the decline of the ancient village, but the essence of traditional culture is curved in every little brick and tile. This paper analyzes adaptive characteristics between the Hougou old villages and local ecological environment, aimed at the exploration of the original ecological construction strategies in the Jinzhong Loess Plateau traditional houses, and thus provide a reference value for the contemporary village and town construction and architectural design. In the course of the study, the author propose rehabilitation programs in terms of the inadequacies of the ancient villages kiln Habitat, and apply cave-dwelling building ecological strategies and energy-saving facilities to the building of new towns, in order to optimize the indoor thermal environment and build more low-carbon environment. In the days when we promote sustainable development so often, we can not only cause people’s attention to focus on the ecological environment, but also to arouse public awareness of the protection of the ancient village, and then discover its geographical characteristics, promotion of the use of local materials and culture, finally we will provide some great ideas for the contemporary architecture.
