Performance Research On Precast Small Size Rectangle Brick Pavement

Using small size bricks to pave roads has a long history. Due to its meritsof flexibility, convenience for construction and maintenance,environment-friendliness, nice landscape effects, as well as recyclability, ithas been widely adopted overseas in recent years. Domestically, small sizebricks are mainly used for sidewalks, urban residential areas, park paths,squares, scarcely used for driving lanes, or highways.Study and knowledge concerning utilization of small brick pavement arefar from enough in China, and most knowledge on that subject is merely basedon regional practical experiences. Though certain level of references can beobtained from those experiences, scientific understanding of it is inadequate.Based on lab experiments and subject construction project for the researchwith the title“pavement structure and landscape design for highway parkingspace focusing on performance”, the following aspects are analyzed, includingloading capacity and its changes, experimental analysis for pavementperformance (such as evenness, skid resistance and water permeabilitycharacteristics), and permanent deformation after repeated loads.After utilization performance analysis of small size brick pavement,merits and design requirements of such materials for landscape pavement areput forward. Its landscape pavement effects are thereby discussed.This paper has referred to related stipulations in “Code for Constructionand Acceptance of Interlocking Brick Road Pavement” CJJ79-98. Learningfrom the successful experience of stones pavement in Yunnan Province as wellas some research at home and abroad, combined with fruits of this research,construction technology and evaluation criteria for small size brick pavementas a landscape pavement have been presented thereafter.Finally, by analyzing performance of small brick pavement, social andeconomic benefits of using pre-cast cement concrete brick pavementdemonstrated.
