Research On The Human Settlement Construction Method Of Traditional City Tianshui

It has both practical and academic significance in exploring the chinese cityplanning theory and design method since the ancient chinese cities had uniqueconstruction concepts and methods. The Tianshui ancient urban morphology was deeplyinfluenced by its regional history,culture and natural environment. The ancient city haddistinctive features as natural spatial patterns of " two mountains holding a water stream" and an urban spatial patterns of" the axis throughout the city with the connection offive towns". This thesis take Tianshui ancient city as subject, use human settlementtheory as guidance in order to understand wisdom in planning and design theories ofTianshui ancient city.And then, understand chinese ancient urban planning and designtheory and method.Combining of the historical documents as well as field research methods, thisthesis clarified the context of causes and characteristics of the development andmorphological evolution of Tianshui. By analyzing its natural environment and socialenvironment as well as other quantitative research, the critical ideas under the living aswell as distinct geographical environment of Tianshui were summarized, whichincluded the city location, the castle morphology, axis positioning, pattern design,important buildings, creating of typical environment and engineering design. The thesisrecommended that the tradition of combining the city with its surroundings should beconcerned when designing a city nowadays. Therefore, the method of urban design, theculture combining with the natural environment could be formed.In the end, through summaries the theoretical and practical design methods fromthe experience of ancient Tianshui, there are reflection of current development of Tianshui. Furthermore,more recommendations based on the current problems will begiven in order to help the further development of Tianshui as well as the construction offamous historical and cultural city.
