Wind energy receives more and more attention of all countries in theworld, due to the advantages of clean, environmental protection, inexhaustible. And wind power is the main utilization form of wind energy. In recent years, the rapid development of wind power industry has also increased the number ofwind farms in our country. Generally, the investment of wind turbine will be70%to80%of the total investment of the wind farm. At the same time, theselection of the wind turbines also affects the power generation and economicbenefits. Therefore, the selection of the wind turbines is particularly important.A wind turbine selection method is proposed aiming at the shortcomings of thecurrent selection methods.Firstly, the quadratic model is demonstrated as the most accurate genericmodel to the ascending segment of the power curve, therefore is used as thefunction of power curve. The new mathematical model of capacity factor andtheoretical power generation are established combined with the powercharacteristic curve function and the Weibull function. The initial cost indexand the turbine-site index have been defined, and the turbine-site index isregarded as the important indicator of technical analysis. At the same time, from the three angles of the value, time, the efficiency, namely, cost-benefitmethod, investment payback period method, internal rate of return method areused to evaluate the economy of the wind turbine selection. And themathematical model of power generation cost is established on the basis ofthese three methods. In order to verify the reasonableness of the wind turbine selection method, the application of the selection method is used in an practical example of thewind farm of Inner Mongolia. Also, the factors which are the technicalparameters of the wind turbine, the average wind speed, wind turbine prices, operation and maintenance costs, discount rate, life cycle are analyzed how toaffect the technical and economic aspects. It is found that the rated wind speed and tower height are two importantparameters in wind turbine selection through the above research and analysis. Therefore, the focus of the thesis research is to determine the rated wind speedand tower height finally. The methods described in this paper provide atheoretical reference for the wind turbine selection.
