Wind turbine generator system is the most essential equipment of a wind farm, the expense of which will be 74% to 82% of the total investment. The good match between wind turbine generator systems and regional wind resources, reliability, maintainability, etc. are all key points for life cycle benefits of wind farms. Therefore, the selection of wind turbine generator systems is one of the most meaningful items in the design of wind farms. The restriction of alternative and imperfection of cost comparison are major limited factors for the existing selection method, such method neither fit for the diversification of wind turbine generator systems, nor meet the demand of the optimal design of wind farms. Given the above, this research will focus on the following contents:1. Build the objective parameters for the optimal selection of wind turbine generator systems. The Resource Matching Index and Turbine Cost Index have been defined initiatively, two comprehensive optimal assessment indexes, the Synthetic Matching Index and Synthetic Value Index, have been set up combined with the parameters of electricity generation and costs. Furthermore, a Life Cycle Cost model for wind farms has been built, which can estimate the investment of the project in the aspects of investment costs, operation costs, maintenance costs, failure costs and disposal costs.2. Put forward the Comprehensive Optimal Selection Method (COSM) for the wind turbine generator systems, and analysis the application of the COSM in actual construction projects based on an example of a wind farm located in North of China.
