There was a surge of building self-anchored suspension bridges for decades, because ofthe elegancy and adaptability, and other advantages of the structure. It has its own uniquecharacteristic in the mechanical properties in the structure. The cable is not embeded into thehuge anchor bank,but is anchored on the end of stiffening girder, so the stiffening girder isturned into a compress-bend member. Therefore, the problem of structure stability should beconsidered again. In this paper, the self-anchored suspension bridge’s structure stability willbe analyzed in the condition of both the material and the geometry nonlinearity.(1) Base on the different theory of the loading method, the paper will take the methodwhich the dead load of the structure and live load are increased simultaneously, when thestability coefficient of the whole structure is calculated. Besides, the method which the liveload is only increased is taken to analyze the influence of the live load for the stability of theself-anchored suspension bridge.(2) The stability of the simple post and the tower of the self-anchored suspension bridgeare analyzed. The plastic stability coefficient of the tower is given in the paper. The progressof the tower buckling in the nonlinear condition is studied.(3) The stability of the self-anchored suspension bridge is analyzed. The first mode of theelastic buckling of the whole structure is shown, and the plastic stability coefficient under thestandard highway vehicle load is calculated. Considering the condition of nonlinearity, theprogress of structural failure during the loading process is studied.(4) The parameters including initial imperfection of the structure, vehicle load, wind loadand the temperature load are analyzed in this paper as the influence factor for the stability ofthe whole structure, and the sensitivity of the each parameter is studied.
