With the rapid development of high-grade highway in our country, the problem ofpavement maintenance is drawing more and more people’s attention. Pavement performanceevaluation is the premise and foundation of work of pavement maintenance, repair, andoverlay. However, according to the current highway technical condition evaluation system,the PCI value often appears greater than100. The design method of asphalt pavement overlayin our country at the same time simply takes the old pavement deflection as design indicators,so when the road surface on behalf of the deflection value is small (less than design deflectionvalue), overlay design cannot be carried out according to current standards.To solve these problems, on the basis of the traditional evaluation index system for thepurpose of pavement maintenance, this article studies the highway technical conditionevaluation system in our country, and then points out the deficiency of existing pavementevaluation system through the analysis. By assuming a certain length of the roads in differentpavement condition index (PCI) corresponding to a single disease were analyzed, a newcalculation method of pavement breakage is put forward, thus get a new pavement conditionevaluation method;Tthrough the investigation and analysis of asphalt pavement on thehighway in the western region, combining with the AASHTO specification paving layer ofpavement design method, a equivalent is built with thickness model of road surface andmodulus of resilience. On the basis of PCI attenuation equation derived the relation betweenthe equivalent thickness of pavement and PCI put forward by Tongji University, the overlaymodel of the relationship between effective thickness of the pavement、pavement equivalentmodulus of resilience and pavement condition index is set up, calculation is conduct onpavement overlay thickness of the final maintenance design of the highway.
