As the development of fibre optical communication technology and digital signal processing technology, the research on digitized voltage and current measurement has been pushed, Electronic Transformers emerge as the times require, and they replace the traditional Electromagnetic Transformers step by step with a lot of advantages. Along with the Merging Unit in digital substation develops toward standardization and normalization, how to ensure the reliability and instantaneity of digital communication system between the primary equipment and the secondary equipment and how to realize the communication of Electronic Transformer come first.This paper firstly analyses the present research status of Electronic Transformer in the domestic and abroad and the importance of interface standardization, compares synchronous communication and asynchronous communication of Electronic Transform, and makes clear the research contents in the paper. According to related data transmission standards between Electronic Transformer and Merging Unit required in 《Smart substation Merging Unit technical specifications》, the communication system’s overall design on the primary side converter of Electronic Transformer was presented. The design breaks into several modules using EP3C5E144as the core and Quartus Ⅱ as the software platform. Subsequently, the data acquisition system on asynchronous communication of Merging Unit has been designed, followed by software simulation and hardware simulation of data transmission.The results of the simulations prove that the asynchronous communication system designed in this paper can absolutely realize the communication functions.At last, the paper analysed asynchronous communication data synchronization in Electronic Transformer, made error analysis toward linear interpolation, and measured rated delay time Tdr.
