Excitation control system is an important part of the power system, which maintainsthe safe and stable operation of the power system. With the development of the nationaleconomy, the installed capacity continues to improve, as well as a higher demand onpower system stability. The breakthrough of Control theory, power electronics and digitalIC technology provides a powerful impetus to the development of the excitation controlsystem. The new excitation control system developed to be the hotspot of the majority ofscholars and Engineers.Under this background, this thesis uses TI’s TMS320F28335as the control core, andmultivariable PID&power system stabilizer (PSS) as control algorithms, to develop thenew types of digital excitation controller. This paper analyzes the significance of theexcitation control technology and development process of the excitation system, comparesthe current popular control algorithm. On the basis of analysis of the mathematical model, the paper proposes using multivariable PID&PSS (power system stabilizer) control mode.In order to illustrate the principle of power system low frequency oscillation and theinhibitory effect of the PSS on the low-frequency interference, this thesis improves theHeffron-Phillips model and derives the of mathematical formulas, also uses theMatlab/Simulink to simulate the process. The controller in line with the concept ofembedded systems, whose hardware is designed with the DSP core and software is buildup with C/ASM language, has been developed successfully. In order to verify the performance of the controller, a simulation platform and a smallunit platform is build up. With zero boost test, no-load given the value of10%of the steptest and deexcitation running test, this paper verifies the steady-state performance anddynamic performance of the controller.
