Study On The Development Status And Application In China On Intelligent Transport System

As a real-time, accurate, highly-efficient, large scope and omni-directional functiontransportation management system, ITS（Intelligent Transport System）integrates advancedelectronic technology, information technology, sensor technology and system engineeringtechnology and applies them to road traffic management. ITS can improve the serviceefficiency and traffic capacity of roads twice or three times, reduce traffic congestion by about60%, increase short-distance transport efficiency by nearly70%, enhance the serviceefficiency of vehicles by more than50%and significantly reduce pollution to the environment.The auxiliary driving designed in the ITS will greatly reduce traffic accidents.ITS has many features and very complex structures. We will base the detailed researchon the following5current development situations and application researches in China:①ITSsystematic frame and standard；②Basic technology involved in ITS；③Traffic flowinducible system in ITS；④Advanced traffic management system in ITS；⑤Advanced autosystem in ITS.This study showed that: The United States, Japan and Europe are the three mainstays forresearch and application of ITS. In developed countries, the development of ITS hasbeenunderway for a long time and is progressing steadily. Currently various core technologiesof ITS have been completely under the control of developed countries, where thedevelopment level of various basic IT technologies needed by ITS have reached a higher level.In developed countries, the ITS is operating multiple subsystems and at thestage of comprehensively upgrading the ITS applications. After nearly10years of ITSconstruction in our country, ITS has been mainly applied to traffic video monitoring and alsogradually used in ETC non-stop charge systems, with considerable achievements. This hasplayed a significant role in road traffic operation, monitoring and management. But generallyspeaking, China’s ITS market is small in scale and not highly developed. As regards theapplication of high level traffic guidance navigation systems, advanced traffic managementsystems, advanced urban traffic signal control systems, automatic driving, automatic roads and other advanced vehicle systems, there remains a big gap between the developedcountries and China.Based on the current situation of China’s ITS, this research has also proposedcorresponding development countermeasures.
