Since China’s reform and opening up, with the continuous improvement of people’s living standard, the requirement to the quality of life have become increasingly high. These requires reflected not only in the high quality of learning and work, but also in the higher level pursuit of the products within reach in life. In the Internet age, people’s lifestyles changed dramatically with the accelerating pace of life, increasing pressure of work and less free time. Thus, many people long for fresh rice or more rest after a busy working day, but the fact is that they have to wash rice, cook it and wait for a long time. So more and more single office workers may probably eat instant noodles or order takeout just for convenience, which runs contrary to the healthy eating habit.Appliances are closely related to our life. Intelligent appliances can cater to the needs of the people, which will make it one of the main trends in the development of home appliances in the future. With the development of the Internet of things, which is consisted of Internet and wireless communication technology, sensor technology and RFID technology, it’s possible for the realization of intelligent home appliances.This paper summarizes the classification and trends, and analyzes the characteristics of smart appliances. On the basis of exploring the design of smart appliances, we propose adapt-to-the-crowd, environment-friendly, simple, easy to use and feature-rich design principles along with the user-friendly and personalized design methods. Following the design principles and methods, a cloud-intelligent, remotely controllable cooker was designed through the analysis of the basic factors, process design and form design. The cooker is a wall-embedded smart cooker, which will not take up cupboard space and just use a wall or closet. In the country of high cost of land, the rational use of space is the most people’s chase. The cooker is divided into three layers: the first layer is the stockholders room, the second is rice-washing room, and the third is the pull-out cooking chamber. It is fully functional and easy to operate. Through clever and precise design, not only the automation of adding rice, adding water, cooking rice and heat preservation but also remote control is realized. You can eat delicious meals at home and relax after the busy life. Last, the paper imaged the application of the cooker in future life. It can be used as the reference of the intelligent home appliance product, and company with which serve in the people’s intelligent life.
