Gear transmission is one of the most important transmission ways in machineryindustry. With the development of the machinery industry, more increasing requirementfor gears are needed in engineering, therefore, the beveloid gears have been used inmany fields because of its prominent advantages. Owing to its tapered tooth thickness, this type of gear can be used as the backlash control gears. The beveloid gears cantransmit rotational motion between parallel, intersected and crossed axes in any relativepositions. But it is point engagement when the meshing beveloid gear pairs withnon-parallel axes, so it is necessary to study the reliability of the beveloid gears. The reliability of the meshing of beveloid gears has seldom been studied. We mustcalculate the mating stress and strength in order to study the reliability of beveloid gears. But the beveloid gear has different parameters in different end sections and the matingof traditional involute gears are line contact, so the calculation method of the matingstress of traditional gears does not apply to the beveloid gears. This paper derives theformula of the mating stress of beveloid gear pairs with intersect axes and calculate themating stress of beveloid gears in any positions. In this paper, the3D model of beveloid gear is established by the software Pro/E,and assembled accurately through parameter calculation. Then we transform theassembly diagram into the software ANSYS, analyze the stress of beveloid gear pairswith intersect axis and compare the results with the theoretical calculations to verify thevalidity of the formula.A numerical simulation method has been used to calculate the reliability ofbeveloid gear pairs because the calculus method has errors with the actual situation. Thestrength of materials does or approximately follows normal distribution. Besides, thedistribution parameters of the strength are determined by the Brinell hardness ofmaterials and the three sigma rule. Based on the stress calculation above, we calculatethe reliability thorough the software matlab. At last, we conclude that the outputstabilizes gradually when the number of numerical simulation reaches certain value.
