Regarding to the well known problems of inadequate sharing of multi-sourced,heterogeneous transportation information in the informatization process of Chineseexpressway network, an ontology-based transportation information integration platformframework for expressway network is proposed, based on a kit of ontology technologieswhich become mature and well adapted in recent years. Taking the geographic informationdisplay of the regional expressway network in Xi’an as an application scenario, the technicalfeasibility of this platform is verified. On this basis, the specific application of informationintegration technology in aspect of the traffic flow control for expressway network is studied.In conclusion, the research results in this paper is applicable in the development of Chineseexpressway network, to promote the ability of common understanding and adequate sharingof multi-sourced, heterogeneous transportation data among expressway network subsystems,therefore will play an important role in the informatization process of Chinese expresswaynetwork. Specifically, the main work of this dissertation can be summarized as follows:(1) On the basis of analysis between traditional and ontology-based informationintegration methods, an ontology-based information integration method and the method ofontology modeling are proposed. By analyzing the multi-sourced transportation data ofChinese expressway network in aspects as static and dynamic information, the upperontology model and each sub-ontology model of expressway network are established. Andthen utilize Protégé developed ontology of the expressway network.(2) An information integration platform framework, which is adapt to theinformatization and intelligentized construction of Chinese expressway network is designed.Taking the geographic information display of the regional expressway network in Xi’an as anapplication scenario, the transportation geographic information display system is developed,and the technical details for implementation of this platform is summarized in aspects asontology data mapping file design, ontology middleware implementation and portal website development. Thereby the technical feasibility of this platform is also verified.(3) Using the results of the ontology-based transportation information integration, thespecific application of information integration technology in aspect of the traffic flow controlfor expressway network is studied, the traffic flow control plans under typical condition aredesigned, and combining with the regional expressway network in Xi’an, the concreteoperation process of the control plan is described.
