At present, the research on mechanical ontology is more and more important along with the development of mechanical informationization, and many researchers are studying the technology about mechanical ontology. This dissertation is supported on the project of National Natural Foundation of China—Muti-subject ontology integration and evaluation supporting collaborative product development (50875158), Innovation Program of Shandong University of science and technology—Research on mechanical ontology integration oriented multi-subject (YCA100324). In this dissertation, the key technology about mechanical components ontology building and integration is studied. Then the function of ontology in knowledge organization is analyzed, and the process of building the mechanical components ontology is supposed depending on an example. Finally, ontology integration of collaborative ontology is analyzed.First of all, feasibility and advantage of ontology application in knowledge organization are analyzed. Ontology is a representative method of knowledge organization. This paper compared and analyzed the differences and relations about logic expression, structure characteristics and formalization between ontology and thesaurus. It also compared and analyzed the differences and relations about relationship expression and structure organization between ontology and taxonomy. Based on all of the comparative researches, the conclusion presents the obvious advantage and fundamental role of ontology in knowledge organization, and the trend of intellectualization to process knowledge by machines. Further more, the relationship between ontology and Semantic Web is analyzed and discussed.Different with the traditional expert classification of building ontology, method of ontology building in the networked and collaborative environment is gived. Web-platform folksonomy is used to analyze the label encoding of mechanical components in the networked and collaborative environment. And according to the combination of labels of mechanical components and ontology technology, the ontology model is given based an instance by protege to reveal the information characteristics of mechanical components more realistically and more completely. With the trend of realization of manufacturing informationization, Building the mechanical components ontology would be useful for communication, sharing and knowledge reusing of mechanical products.The process of getting the result of collaborative ontology is one method of ontology integration. The dissertation analyzed the related technology about ontology integration. Ontology merging is used to support the the ontology integration. One example is given to integrate collaborative ontologies.
