Entering the21st century, the living environment, population and urban areas are tend tobe saturated, population, traffic congestion is the common fault of the city, restrict thesustainable development of the city severely. Exploit the underground space, save the limitedland resources, which is to solve the urbanization and the problems of traffic congestion, etc.Underground space has relatively stable environmental conditions, the construction conditionsare not restricted by climate conditions, and many other advantages. In the process of modernurban construction, give full play of the underground space environment advantages,combination the overground space construction, complement each other, in this way we cancreate a more suitable city living space for human habitation. Therefore, in recent years thedevelopment and utilization of urban underground space has become the important directionof future city development. The exploit and utilization of underground space could expandnew development space, To a certain extent, could ease the production and life land useconflicts, problems such as traffic jams for the development of modern city. Undergroundspace development involves space resources reasonable planning, geological risk control,construction technology, construction cost, and many other factors, the underground spaceengineering construction needs a long period, great technical difficulties, high cost ofconstruction. Therefore, the suitability evaluation about urban underground spacedevelopment and utilization, is an important task to modern underground engineering researchfield, for the future development direction of urban construction, has very important practicaland guiding significance.The first part of this paper introduces the significance of city underground spacedevelopment and the aspects of the research status in underground engineering constructionboth at home and abroad; The second part describes the present situation of Shijiazhuang citygeology and the main problems of underground space development and utilization; The thirdpart, based on a large number of geological data, divides the factors influencing the urbanunderground space development and utilization into five aspects: engineering geologicalcondition, hydrogeological condition, geographical conditions in engineering, groundconditions and adverse geological conditions; Fourth part using the analytic hierarchy process(ahp), determine weights of evaluation indexes which impact the underground spacedevelopment such as stability of landform, strata structure, strata, the groundwater depth andother fourteen indexes, then numerical the various evaluation index, according to the greymathematical theory to calculate the evaluation index sequence and the optimal value of eachevaluation index, determine the correlation suitability grades, based on the GIS map, using themethod of superposition of comprehensive came to Shijiazhuang underground spacedevelopment and utilization suitability zoning maps; Finally make a summary, put forwardsuggestions for the Shijiazhuang underground space development and planning, development,design, construction, etc.
