The voltage and reactive power in the medium and lower voltage (MV/LV) distribution network, not only directly affects the power quality of the electrical customer, but also has stronger impact on the operating stability of the whole distribution system. Therefore, it has great significance for improving the stability and economic level as well as the voltage qualification rate by installing the reactive equipments in the distribution system. In this paper, the actual condition of the Binzhou Electric Power Corporation is introduced and the genetic algorithm (GA) is proposed to implement the optimal allocation in the distribution system and the corresponding software is designed by employing the GUI platform in Matlab. The main contributions of this paper are summarized as follows:First of all, the optimal mathematical model and the typical utilized algorithm are reviewed based on the theoretical foundation of the reactive power. Further, the performances of the mentioned algorithms are simply evaluated. Then, the algorithm for the optimal allocations of the reactive equipments in MV/LV distribution network is presented according to the mathematical model and GA. A simple feeder model is built to test the validities of the proposed algorithm. Finally, the software is designed to implement the actual application in the Binzhou Electric Power Corporation and the features of the built software are summarized. The theoretical analysis and the results of the actual application indicated that the designed software in this paper can effectively reduce the energy losses and improve the economic operation level of the MV/LV distribution network.
